Elliott Erwitt Photography

This photograph depicts a dog on a leash jumping with joy accompanied by his owner. The center of interest in this picture is of course the dog. You can really tell the humor of the puppy is what Elliott wants you to examine because the picture only shows half of the owners body. Rather than just having the dog sitting there, Elliott brings out the humor in the picture by capturing the dog in mid air. Elliott used narrow depth of field as the design and compositional element. He considered all the potential elements that could be used in this shot and decided that the dog should be in focus. The colors of the photograph are simply black and white. But that doesn't necessarily make a picture boring, as you can see in the picture above. This is one of my favorite images from Elliott Erwitt because he is able to project joy and humor from a black and white shot. This is also a great representation of his love for dogs and the sensitivity to the human state.

Different types of photography

Shallow depth of fieldonly the main suject of interest is enhanced by throwing other elements out of focus
girl sitting back with her feet on table
chineese male laying down with arm stretched out
arm of a bench

shallow depth of field can be achieved by using wide aperatures.

Deep depth of fieldFrom near to far in sharp focus

view of a lake in winter

brown angel statues

garden nomes in forest

Deep depth of field can be achieved by using small aperatures.

Fast Shutter Speedtakes the image almost instantly as in frozen in time.
water balloon popping
owl taking off
kid punching in high shutter speed
to get fast shutter pictures you have to set the time value to a fast time like 1/500 of a second

Slow shutter speed- slows the motion down to get a blurred effect.
city life in the nighttime
highway street with cars passing by

tree with clouds on slow shutter speed
to achieve slow shutter pictures you must set the tv to a slow time like 1/4 of a second

Film Grain- is the random optical texture of processedphotographic film due to the presence of small grains of a metallic silver developed from silver halide that have received enough photons.
4 guys taking a picture
close up of a womens eyes
man tied up with ropes

Digital noise- the amount of a color captured and the quality of the color.
close up of headphones
two guys playing guitar on stage
