Elliott Erwitt Photography

This photograph depicts a dog on a leash jumping with joy accompanied by his owner. The center of interest in this picture is of course the dog. You can really tell the humor of the puppy is what Elliott wants you to examine because the picture only shows half of the owners body. Rather than just having the dog sitting there, Elliott brings out the humor in the picture by capturing the dog in mid air. Elliott used narrow depth of field as the design and compositional element. He considered all the potential elements that could be used in this shot and decided that the dog should be in focus. The colors of the photograph are simply black and white. But that doesn't necessarily make a picture boring, as you can see in the picture above. This is one of my favorite images from Elliott Erwitt because he is able to project joy and humor from a black and white shot. This is also a great representation of his love for dogs and the sensitivity to the human state.
