Elliott Erwitt

Elliott Erwitt was born on July 26, 1928. Elliott was born in Paris, France to russian parents. He moved a lot during his life time starting with his transfer to Milan, Italy where he lived until he was 10. At the age of 10 Elliott moved back to France with his family and a year later he immigrated to New York, arriving at the U.S. in 1939. Two years later he moved again, this time migrating to Los Angeles. At the age of 21, after graduating from Hollywood High School, Elliott returned to Europe traveling and photographing in France and italy, marking the start of his professional career. 
Although Elliott was drafted into the U.S. army in 1951, he kept his job of taking pictures for various publications totally separate from his military duties while was stationed in New Jersey, Germany, and France. In 1953, when he finished his required military service, he was asked to be a member of Magnum Photos by it's founder Robert Capa. Elliott became president of this prestigious agency in 1968. He was then re elected serving a total of 3 terms as president. Since then he has continued to be an active member of Magnum Photo and one of the leading figures in the field of photography. Elliott Erwitt also wrote books, journalistic essays, created illustrations, and advertisement that have been starred in publications around the world for over 40 years.
Elliott Erwitt is best known for his humerous dog photographs.
